Abstract
Adolescent motherhood often develops in contexts of social inequality, gender-based violence, and fragile support networks. This study analysed the life trajectories of ten young adult women who experienced motherhood during adolescence through life histories and in-depth interviews. The findings revealed experiences of family, sexual, and intimate partner violence, economic hardship, educational disruption, and family conflicts. Processes of resilience and personal reconstruction were also identified, linked to economic autonomy, strengthened support networks, professional support, and the re-signification of motherhood. The study concludes that psychosocial intervention from a Social Work perspective requires gender-sensitive, life-course, and strengths-based approaches to promote recovery, resilience, and autonomy among women facing situations of vulnerability.
Key Words
Adolescent motherhood; gender-based violence; psychosocial intervention; resilience; social work.
